Meanwhile, you listed 15 games that have been released in the last. During that time the player may not want to buy another, or may want to wait for a sale. One problem is that a person can play one turn based RPG and take a year or more to "finish" it completely. I think that alone fueled the explosion, with people throwing money at every quality turn based RPG they saw (of which there were several, as Kickstarter and similar finally allowed a way for small collections of experienced game developers to get the funding to make the game they wanted, not the game projected to have the most profits to please the shareholders) We're now back in a time when you can get a good turn based RPG.
We went through a dead zone where every RPG was an Action RPG. (*Incendiary implications about Star Citizen and Broken Age were intentional to generate discussion, come at me stans)
Kickstarter renaine free#
Was this just a byproduct of the popularity of Kickstarter? What about Double Fine Productions and Cloud Imperium Games, two other major players in the Kickstarter Renaissance in different genres (adventure games and space sims), that have become if anything quite infamous, as their projects have been mired in controversy? Is Kickstarter losing steam? What about this disastrous new "Kickstarter for Games but you make your money back", Fig? Is that going to hurt the image of crowdfunding even more than Star Citizen* and Broken Age*?įeel free to state a position on any of these questions or ask your own, let's get this rolling because I think crowdsourcing is seriously an interesting new phenomenon in media production and consumption in the 2010s and I think even if we've had this discussion before we haven't had it with as much hindsight as we do in 2018.
Banner 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Pillars of Eternity 2, have all bombed HARD with 100k to 200k in sales.Īre we seeing CRPG fatigue? Are there too many new players coming in to the hype and getting burned out when they don't realise the kind of game they're getting? Those wanting another Arcanum, Baldur's Gate 2 or Fallout 2 have been most pleasantly surprised, as it's honestly become a bit of a glut now and we can't even possibly play them all.Īnd that's where the controversy lies: we're seeing the next wave of these games, but they're bombing HARD. There have been an explosion of CRPG and CRPG-ish games. Pillars of Eternity, Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Divinity: Original Sin, The Banner Saga, Wasteland 2, Torment: The Tides of Numenera, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, Tyranny, Underrail, Age of Decadence, Blackguards, Blackguards 2, NEO Scavenger, Wasteland 3, The Banner Saga 2, Divinity Original Sin 2, Pathfinder: Kingmaker
I wanna leave this really open for discussion so I won't argue for much, just ask a ton of questions.
Like our previous Kickstarter, this is something of a small Project for us, but this time the Fund Level is somewhat higher, as we have design costs to consider in the Goal. we are planning on releasing these minis in two packs, one of four ordinary Knights with hammers, and one Command pack with Dwarf Commander, Standard Bearer, Musician and a Champion. These 8 new original miniatures represent the Dwarf Knights of the Bear Order, all carrying huge two handed hammers. Pledge now to help TAG add these two new additional packs of 28mm Dwarf Empire Bear Knights on foot to our current range, Funded here on Kickstarter 18 months ago. Live stock, Horses & Pack Animals Expand.
